During our 5 weeks trip to South
America we booked lots of private tours and we met many
different guides. They all were nice but the day we
spent in Puerto Montt with Juan was very special to us.
He knew all the nice and secret places and had the
perfect timimg to get us there before the crowds from
the cruise ships arrived. It was just like spending a
day with an old friend. And talking to him in German
almost felt like home... Whenever you have the chance to
book a tour with Juan, do it!!!

Selecting Juan was one of the
highlights of our two week trip through southern South
America. Juan is very friendly, speaks English well, and
is well versed on the area. He was waiting for us as we
got to shore and had a new van which was very
comfortable. We could not have been happier. The cost of
this tour was only a bit more than had we both taken the
ships group bus tours which were not as much fun as
being with Juan. I happen to be a bird watcher and he
was helping us spot birds and would patient as we got
out to look. Don't hesitate to use Juan on your trip to
Puerto Montt!

LAKE LLANQUIHUE CIRCUIT & OSORNO
VOLCANO Pat & Garland (17 Mar 2015) Very pleased with
tour guide. Really understood what we were hoping for,
very comfortable with his driving, his discussion about
the area, what he included in the tour. A definitely
great day made so by our tour guide. Might have gotten
rid of small towns or driven thru instead of walking
around town square but a great time!!!!

“Private tour from Puerto Montt”/
Having previously been to Puerto Montt, we sought an
alternative to the ship tours and found JuanSunkel Cerro
as coming highly recommended. He met us at the dock and
took us on a tour of LAKE LLANQUIHUE & the OSORNO
Volcano. Beautiful countryside; lovely towns and
villages. He is knowledgeable and personable and his
English is good. Only limitation was that because of the
time constraints of the ship's limited time in port, we
couldn't take the ski lift beyond the lodge to the top
of the volcano. We got back in time to do a little
street shopping in Puerto Montt. (By the way, the best
place to buy souvenirs in Chile.) Would recommend using
him.

Fantastic trip and tour guided by
our now very good friend Juan Sunkel.
He was always on time and highly informative and made
all of my family feel very relaxed. My wife and I have a
2 year old boy who travelled with us and I have to say
Juan was very good ( and patient) with him , his singing
and music in the car! We thouroughly enjoyed ourselves
as Juan knows the region extensively and took us to the
best spots. Highly recommended! We will be back soon

Perfectly on time (in the harbour)
with a brand-new touring car, very friendly, caring and
informative in german and english, JuanSunkel provied
us with an excellent private tour of Puerto Montt,
Puerto Varas, Lake Llanquihue, Orsono Vulcano and its
beautiful surroundings. Always explaining our questions
and stopping at request at any scenic place (lake,
lama's, vulcano, river, plants, flowers, etc.) Juan
allowed us magnificent nature videographing always with
a silenced car engine. Juan Sunkel should
not be missed as a guide when visiting beautifull Puerto
Montt in Chile with a videocamera.

Hallo Juan, Nochmals vielen Dank
für deinen wunderschönen und punktuellen Ausflug rund
Puerto Montt. Wir haben es sehr genossen. Unsere weitere
Reise nach Castro, Puerto Chacabuco (Regen), Los
Glaciares Nat. Park (schönes Wetter), Magelhahn Strasse
(schön), Punta Arenas (Nebel), Beagle Kanal & Ushuaia
(Nebel), Kap Horn & Antarctica (schön !), Falkland (unbeständig),
Punte Este (schön mit 2 Stunden Unwetter), Montevideo (schön),
Buenos Aires (schön + warm), Iguazzu Falls (schön + warm)
und Rio (schön + heiss) waren fabelhaft interessant und
wir haben viel gesehen und viel gefilmt. Am 22 Januar
waren wir wieder zuHause in der Schweiz. Hier ist es
jetzt tief-Winter (bis minus 5 Grad Celcius) mit 50 cm

“Private tour in Puerto Montt” My
family hired Juan Sunkel to
drive and guide us on our 1 day in Puerto Montt Chile.
We arrived from a cruise ship and he was there to greet
us as promised. He drove us in nice new mini van to the
Osorno Volcano and took us on a wonderful hike to the
top. We then went to the Petrohue Waterfalls and hiked a
bit there--really you just look at the views. Then on
the the green lake and to a beautiful town of German
descent Puerto Varas--great town to walk around.
Llanquihue Lake is also stunning. And, then back to the
ship in plenty of time to board. He did just as promised
and was very easy to be with and considerate of our
wishes. Good guide.

We were
very pleased with Juan. He is an attentive and caring
person. The tour arranged by him was quite extensive and
touched on all the highlights including getting us up to
the chairlift which one can use to get to the top of the
Osorno volcano. He had just purchased a new KIA, an SUV
model, which ran smoothly and was very comfortable for
us. Ours was a private tour which included a trip to
Petrohue River and to Puerto Varas, the City of Roses.
We were well looked after, including an introduction to
a restaurant with German ancestry but also serving
Chilean food. That was our request. He brought us back
to the pier, on time and after a very eventful day
having introduced us to the delights of Chile. Juan
speaks English well and is also fluent in German. He has
extensive knowledge of the area and was an excellent
guide. We would without hesitation recommend him.

Juan,
Suzanne and I were very happy with the way in which you
looked after us in Puerto Montt. You speak very good
English and we had no difficulty communicating with you.
We appreciated your sense of humour and you have a very
good knowledge of the local area including cultural
matters, flora and fauna. We felt that you made good
suggestions and choices as to where we should go on the
various day trips and the trips to the Island and up
into the lake area were spectacular. You knew the best
places to take good photos and we appreciated the photos
that you took of Sue and me together. You were always
punctual and the car was clean and we appreciated the
supply of drinking water and hand-wipes etc. We have
certainly recommended that our friends travel to Chile
and down to your area and we would strongly recommend
you as their guide. I hope that you can use this
reference and we are sorry that we could not use the
official website to provide our reference for you. We
certainly want to return to Chile at some stage and to
go further south in Patagonia. It is our intention to
visit Antarctica via Patagonia and also visit Machu
Pichu and the Galapagos Islands in the next year or so.

Wonderful private
car and guide - AVOID THOSE BUS TRIPS!! We booked THREE
consecutive tours with Juan Sunkel late
June 2014. We were three single women on a long weekend
out of Santiago, interested in seeing the Lake
Llanquihue region. Juan picked us up at Puerto Montt
airport having waiting for our two hour flight delay. We
spent the afternoon and early evening at Ensenada,
Petrohue Falls and (ski season’s opening day) Volcano
Osorno. Second day was a 10 hour visit to the island of
Chiloe. Please include time to visit this island and
it's penguins, birds, sealife! Third day we traveled
along the western shore of the lake to the towns of
Llanquihue and Frutillar. You’d think you were in
southern Germany! Drop off back at the airport. Juan’s
English, German, and driving skills are excellent. His
services are the perfect choice for cruisers and

In November 2012 I had a few days free from meetings in
Santiago. I had never seen penguins in the wild. The nearest
seemed to be on Chiloe. I was advised to contact Juan Sunkel.
It was the best travel advice I have ever been given. Juan
met me in Puerto Montt and over two short days was much more
than a guide. He drove me, filled me with the Chile's
history, found restaurants with great food and views and
became an essential part of my life. And the penguins? We
saw them, an exceptonal experience, reached the base camp of
the Osorno Volcano in a snow storm and drove around lakes in
the grey drizzle of early spring. Juan shone throughout all
of this; what a travelling companion, guide and friend.

On December 2013 we returned from Chile. We choose Touring
Chile for once in a life time experience. Our guide was Mr.
Juan Sunkel - simply the best. He was able to plan each day
in a well organized pace without skipping on any details.
His knowledge and passion of each attraction left us wanting
to learn more about this country’s rich culture and
traditions. We were able to see and experience much more
than any of our friends that have traveled on their own or
in a large group. It was the most moving and memorable
experience we had. We would highly recommend using for
anyone, considering visiting Chile. We were more than happy
that we had organized Juan, as we thoroughly enjoyed our
time with him ,and the knowledge he shared with us. Juan
went out of his way to make sure that we got to see what we
wanted. On the first day we did Lake LLanquihue circuit &
Osorno Volcano, in the evening, we went with him to a very
good restaurant he recommended. The following day we travel
to Chiloe Island & Penguin Colony - a long day but, we
thoroughly enjoyed it very much. On the last day Juan took
us to Puerto Montt city tour- wonderful authentic fish
market "Angelmo"- we ate the "seviche" salad, and then he
drove us to the Airport. Yes, we could have done this all on
our own but, we are pleased we shared these days with him.
He has a happy personality, very reliable person, speaks
very good English and it is a pleasure to be around. We wish
him all the best for his future, and hope he could come to
visit us.

On our recent cruise, we booked a day tour in advance with
Juan. He responded very promptly to all our enquires and,
before our cruise, sent us photographs of the area. He was
waiting for us when we alighted the tender. We had already
arranged what we wanted to see and this included the Osorno
Volcano. We enjoyed his excellent tour very much. Juan has a
very good command of English and was very knowledgeable
about the area. He returned us to the ship in plenty of
time. There were problems with tenders the morning of our
trip because there were three ships in port that day. I
would advise anyone booking this trip to get off the ship as
early as possible. When we visited the National Park to see
the Falls, it was so crowded it was difficult to move.
Although we did see the volcano, which is a spectacular
sight, we did not have time to go up it, just in case there

Hallo Juan, Leider war unser Ausflug sehr kurz und wir
hätten gerne noch mehr gesehen. Nachdem wir Valparaiso und
vor allem Santiago gesehen haben, sind wir sicher, dass Ihre
Gegend die schönste von Chile war. Sollten wir wieder nach
Chile kommen, werden wir auf jeden Fall Puerto Montt und vor
allem Frutillar wieder besuchen. Dann aber wesentlich länger.
Wir sind zu Hause vor wenigen Tagen angekommen und müssen
erst alles erlebte verarbeiten, insbesondere meine Fotos und
Filme. Ich denke, dass ich auch nochmals in die Antarktis
fahre, dann aber mit mehr Zeit. Nochmals vielen Dank für die

Dear Juan, Thanks for the mail and the nice pictures. Not so
much snow when we were up the volcano Osorno! We enjoyed our
trip very much. Our driver was very knowledgeable and we had
a very good day with him. I must say the chocolate beer I
had with my lunch was not really to my liking, but for the
rest we enjoyed it. I have no suggestions on what else there
is to see, as our time ashore was very limited. Myself I
like to see birds, maybe that is something to look into?
Maybe go more into the mountains and see the Lammergeier
etc? Maybe we return one day to seen more of the continent
and less water? It is a long way form Germany, but one never

time to "recover" . I wanted to thank you again for a great

Dear Mr. Sunkel, You gave us an excellent excursion (we
think better than a group excursion of the cruise-ship). It
is no problem for you to explain everythig in English and
German. You know very much about the surrounding and gave us
a great service. The excursion began in Puerto Montt and the
first stop was the Petrohué waterfalls. You drove past the
touristic point because several busses parked there. It was
too busy. A minute later you showed us another beautiful
point to see the Petrohué waterfalls. It seems a privat
place. There were no other touristic people and we had a
brilliant view. After that you parked your new car at a
place with a beautiful view of the Osorno volcano. Along the
Llanquihue lake you drove to the city of roses called Puerto
Varas. We had a nice stop in the centre for a short lunch.
You recommended a delicious Chilean regional dish. Maybe we
will return to this part of Chile in the future and then we
hope to see you again for another excursion. Kind regards,

on Chiloe, not forgetting the oysters in the Mermaid
